Horizontal or Vertical Monitor Strip Calendar

vertical bw calendar attached to monitor

After receiving a comment from Diane about my vertical calendar and a question about a template for the horizontal monitor calendar, I set out to find more info by asking Diane and doing some research on the web. I found a template on the Adobe site and passed that on to Diane, but had problems with printing the jpg.

So I created the calendar from scratch in Photoshop both as a horizontal and a vertical calendar and also as black and white and colored. On top of it I saved the PDF as a regular page of 8.5x11 inches and as a legal size of 8.5x14 inches to make longer calendars.

These two PDF pages are the final result.

May 2008

I just got a new 22" LCD monitor and my calendars don't fit any longer as they are too tall or too wide. So I created a new calendar that is only half an inch high and about 14 inches wide. I split the year into 2 halves so that it prints nicely on a regular sheet of paper. Once it is printed it can be glued together into one long strip or just stuck side by side. (Make sure you print it at 100% size or you won't be able to read it).

July 2008

I have just finished creating the 2009 computer monitor calendars. I have split the calendars into black and white versions and colored version and I have created calendars starting with Sunday (the way calendars are displayed in North America) and calendars starting with Monday.

NOTE

The following calendars are on each PDF file:

  • vertical calendar, one inch wide and 10 inches tall
  • horizontal calendar, inch inch tall (it is split into two halves each about 6 inches wide)
  • horizontal calendar for LCD monitors (they have a narrower frame), 1/2 inch tall (it is split into 2 halves each about 7.25 inches wide)
  • 2008 horizontal calendar for LCD monitor (July - December)
  • the calendar can be printed on regular office paper, or use heavier paper for a sturdier calendar
  • it is formatted to fit on a 8.5 x 11 inch sheet of paper, so please print at 100%

The calendar idea was picked up by the Lifehacker and by the ETC blogs on Sunday, December 9/2007. Thanks to both blogs.

I'm so excited! I just found this page via Google. For the first time in years, my legal directory vendor did not send me a promotional calendar similar to this and I've been lost. Thanks for sharing this much-used tool!

Mary, The PDF files are designed to print at the maximum size for the given paper and are not meant to be printed bigger.

I can open the links but I can't enlarge them thru my adobe reader. As they are, they print out to small for me. Any ideas?

Linda, the link is to a PDF file not a Publisher file. Please try to link to it again. I just did and the PDF file opened as expected.

I don't have Publisher 2008 and can't open the vertical calendar to print it. Could you send it to me as a pdf file, jpg, gif, or doc?

Calendars in North America start with Sunday, that's why I made it this way.
If you want to change it to start with another day, email me for the Photoshop file and alter it yourself.

The Sierra Club includes 18-month vinyl adhesive strip calendars in its fund-raising mailings. The are great and can be peeled off the monitor or keyboard without leaving residue.

These calendars rock. I can't believe those eejits who complained because the week starts on Sunday. Let them make their own calendars. Sheesh. Thank you for a very cool item that I will use all next year!

Erm. Your calendar is wrong -- your week starts on a Sunday... very confusing. Must be some Americanism...
