Stencils from Transparency Sheets

Kokopelli stencil

Kokopelli stencilled on a rock

I've always been looking for ways to create my own stencils without having to draw them by hand. Then one day I got a sample pack of transparency sheets and I knew just what to do. I went to my graphic programs and looked for my favorite designs that could be translated into stencils. I omitted all the colors and printed the design only in black and white outline form and then used a craft knive to cut out the design. Now I have my own personalized stencils on very sturdy plastic.

This idea works extremely well for text, as the text size can easily be adjusted to the project size.

The design I'm using here is called Kokopelli. Long before Columbus discovered America, ancient Anasazi rock artists were carving cultural scenes into the canyon walls throught the West. Appearing frequently in those ancient petroglyphs was Kokopelli, a symbol of peace, harmony and fertility. Find out more about Kokopelli here.

Hospital X-Ray Sheets for Stencils

I received this tip from Debbie in Nov 2003:

"I use old x-ray sheets that I get from the hospital they will give them to you for free just call and ask and they work perfect."
